Dianella V Bullsbrook, lost toss (shit coin). Bullsbrook elected to bat first on a sticky day, setting the stage for a challenging fielding effort. Their opening batsmen seized a strong advantage, led mainly by one of their openers. Our bowlers toiled hard to break through, but wickets were elusive, despite excellent bowling from the openers Tom and Scotty. It wasn't until the 18th over that Navindu Silva, a promising new addition to D grade, delivered a breakthrough by dismissing the in-form batsman.

From appearing to be in a tough spot, our team rallied back, tightening the screws on runs and securing crucial wickets, ultimately restricting Bullsbrook to a total of 8-158. Special mention goes to Kade, who bowled a fantastic spell with figures of 3-25.

When it was our turn to bat, Srujan once again took up the mantle, anchoring the innings with a solid 36, while Jono contributed 38 runs to keep our hopes alive. However, the target proved just slightly out of reach, and we found ourselves 25 runs short at the end of the game.

Despite the outcome, the team exhibited unwavering determination and perseverance. It was a great effort from everyone, and we never gave up in the face of adversity.

E Grade
Dianella CC (146) def Brabham CC (9/111)

S Ahamed              2/25

Controversial Start to Brabham v Dianella CC match: Brabham skipper using an Indian coin and Siraj refusing to accept the result and rightfully forcing him to use an Australian coin. Winning the toss Demons elected to bat. Openers played cautiously before Shameel got going and played some exclusive drives and couple of effortless sixes, putting on a half century partnership. Both openers perished with the introduction of spinners. Shameel made 37. After a middle order collapse left handers Shiraf and Irshad gave the bowlers something to defend. Shiraf making 21 and Irshad remained 27 not out. Brabham chasing 146 came out very confidently before spinners Saeed and Raza struck early, well supported by Siraj. 22 overs of slow bowling and the opposition were unable to get going. Soba and Ikram cleaned up the tail with some hostile bowling. Soba, Shiraf and Fahim were outstanding in the field taking some brilliant catches and Irshad affecting a crucial run out with a brilliant direct hit. Brabham could only manage 111. A confidence boosting win after being elevated to E grade.

S Burress                68
R Atkinson               21
A Sharma             4/28
R Atkinson            2/31
P Ediriweera         2/31

Lots of new faces and playing in a new grade we came up against a very strong Brabham side. We chose to bowl first and after a slowish start A Sharma, one of our new additions, came on and did an amazing job with the ball finishing with 4/28 and was easily the pick of the bowlers. We bowled fairly well but weren’t able to stop Brabham scoring leading to us chasing a score of 203. Batting started amazingly with S Burress (63) batting beautifully with G Perich (18) to get us off to an fast start. Unfortunately once the wickets started to fall we didn’t have enough to come to keep up the rate that was required and we fell 60 runs short. All in all a great effort against a team that was very strong and I expect to be playing finals. Hopefully we can learn from this game and come back stronger next week.

I Grade played its first game of the season at Coolbinia Oval against Coolbinia West Perth. The team had two players playing their first game for Dianella in Mark Hanratty and Phanicharan Deshmukh. Both showed they will be valuable players going forward. Dianella won the toss and elected to bat. We lost 2 quick wickets then consolidated with a 50 run stand between Cam and Patto. After this there was a steady fall of wickets. Some late hitting by Yagan Dixon who scored 19 allowed us to reach 107 in the 33rd over. In reply Coolbinia West Perth were never under pressure with an opening stand of 70. They passed our total in the 20th over losing two wickets in the process. The highlights were two excellent catches to Jason and Leroy. Despite the loss the team showed great spirit and there is a lot to build on.
