On what was to be one of the hottest days to play cricket this season. After multiple checks on the weather the decision was made to play. As the toss went up both teams knew that the way it fell would be simply one of the most important things on the day. Dianella winning the toss and Ryan McCormack would say you guys can have a bat…… after us, Dianella sending Ayesh and Dilshan out to open the pair decided they would try to see who could run the other out with 4 chances missed but the 5th time Coolbinia didn’t miss and Ayesh departed for 15. Dilshan went soon after on 14. Tim and Jesse stemmed the bleeding on quick wickets before Jesse was dismissed LBW on 17 off 26. Tim was then run out for 17 off 43. Wickets continued to fall at a steady pace from then on Ridley for 10, Bailey for 17, Andy for 7, Tyler and Tobey both for a duck and Zac with 2. Ryan continued his recent run of good form with the bat finishing 19* off 21 Setting Coolbinia 130 to win we knew early wickets were key. But Coolbinia knew what they needed to do knuckled down and didn’t give up chances until the 20th over where dropped catches started to hurt as we let our fielding performance slide dropped 5 catches. Coolbinia chasing down the total in 27 overs. Bowling highlights Zac 2/31 off 4 Dilshan 1/17 off 6 Ridley 0/14 off 6

Belmont CC (179) def by Dianella CC (8/181)

As the D Grade squad checked the weather and the numbers available thinned some people wondered if we'd even get on the park. But we did. Without our illustrious skipper though, and not for the first time, Tom showed that he cannot be trusted with coins.

And so it was that the Dianella boys found ourselves in a stifingly hot field in or around Belmont. Also the Belmont skipper let me know as we were walking out that they didnt have an iPad, so get ready for some guestimates on the numbers below.

Undeterred we set about our work. The boys held their catches, and all the bowlers contributed well. A particularly long spell of spin from both ends with Kade and Preetham was a god send to the quicks. Jageesh playing his first game for the club picked up 2, onya. Unfortunately a few batsmen got starts, the heat meant we weren't as tight in the field as we can be, and the score crept up to 179. No matter.

In his first knock for the season, club favourite Mick Ryan opened up and knicked off for a duck. We love you Mick, please come back.

A top order collapse saw us 4 for 40 odd and in a world of trouble. That didn't bother the Atkinson boys who steadied for a 30 odd run partnership. When the brothers fell Kade and Hayden picked up where they left off. The runs started flowing, the pressure was right back on Belmont and the boys put them to the sword with a 60 run partnership in the end. Tom finished the innings off plundering 28 off some pretty average bowling and Jageesh hit the winning runs 8 down in the 37th. Not bad for a first game.

Dianella CC (7/112) def Midland CC (110)
F Azeez                       39 (56)

M Shiraff                      15 (17)

F Abdul Cassim           2/3 (6)
S Maheshwaran          2/6 (2.1)

First Match after the break Demons had a bad start loosing the toss on a 42 Degree day and with only nine players to start the game . Midland had no hesitation in batting first . With the heat soaring Dianella skipper shuffled the bowlers around with short spells . Shiraf and Saeed bowled economically before Saeed removed the opener to a brilliant catch by Soba . When Midland batsmen were trying to settle down, man with a golden arm Fahim accounted for two wickets in two overs . Siraj , Soba and Saeed claiming two wickets each , Raza with a solitary wicket and a brilliant run out by Irshad ended Midland innings. Chasing 111 to win Dianella lost early wickets . A patient 15 from Ikram and a match winning knock of 39 by Wicket keeper Fawzan who was unfortunately run out. Left handed shiraff scored 15 valuable runs. Starting the new year with a 3 wicket win under trying conditions.

Dianella CC (71) def by Scarborough CC (6/178)

S Burress                  10 (15)

O Guilleaume             9 (24)
C Tomlinson              3/25 (8)

S Burress                  1/24 (5)

Scarborough won the toss and didn't hesitate in batting. After a slow but steady start, they eventually got on top and at the halfway point were 2/100 and were well on track for a score in excess of 200. In stifling conditions, which left us fielding with 10 for large parts and an unfortunate injury to our opening bowler Olly, we could easily have folded, but to the boys credit, they maintained their enthusiasm and fielded magnificently to restrict the top team to 178. Liam Kay bowled his 8 overs only conceding 19 runs, whilst Calum was magnificent, finishing with 3/25. Mahesh and Trent in his first game for the year also picking up poles. The banter in the field was awesome and I couldn't have been prouder of their efforts.  In response, we never really got going against some good bowling. Ashton, Trent and Olly all got a handful of runs as we ended up well short.

Dianella CC (9/179) def by Western Wolves CC (190)

S Johnson                 39 (61)

B Alweyn                   36* (41)

?                               2/19 (3)
Y Dixon                    2/31 (4)

I Grade travelled to Deschamp in Noranda to play Bayswater Postals. On a very hot day we lost the toss and were asked to field. In very testing conditions most bowlers struggled to maintain an accurate line and length. Bayswater had a few younger batsman who were able to take toll on a field that rewarded shot making. At the end of 40 overs Bayswater had made 5 for 265. Christian and Yagan took two wickets each.

In reply Dianella scored 184 off 40 overs with Jono (38) Brian (36no) and Christian (29) being the leading scorers. Brian's score was his highest for Dianella. This was a good effort considering how much the heat had sapped everyone's energy.
